History of Fox 4 Kansas City
WDAF-TV or Fox 4 is a television station based in Kansas City, Missouri that is operated by Fox Broadcasting Company. The station runs about 49 hours a week of locally produced news programs and sports broadcasts as well as a selection of off-network sitcoms, talk shows, reality shows, etc.
Before becoming Fox 4, WDAF was owned by the Kansas City Star. With its initial broadcast in 1949, WDAF was the second television station in Missouri and the first one in Kansas City. An antitrust action filed by the federal government against the Star over its broadcasting properties forced the owner to sell their broadcasting arm. In 1958, WDAF TV and radio was sold to Transcontinent Broadcasting.
It was in 1994 that WDAF became a Fox affiliate when the station was sold to New World Communications. New World then announced that its TV stations were to affiliate with the Fox Network. Three years later, Fox bought the New World station group and WDAF officially became Fox 4 and was wholly owned and operated by the giant media network.
