Kansas City Fire Department
The Kansas City Fire Department’s mission is to ensure the protection of the community by providing committed and excellent service. For them, every encounter, be they with a Kansas citizen or guest is an opportunity to fulfill this mission. Thus, its members must be dedicated to deliver their best performances with each opportunity to serve.
The Kansas City Fire Department operates from a whooping 34 fire stations, which are divided into seven battalion districts which include 34 Pumpers or Engine Companies, 12 Trucks (Ladder Companies), three Rescue and one Shift Deputy chief going on duty every single day in the Kansas community.
Aside from the seven battalion districts, the Kansas Fire Department is also subcategorized into five bureaus. These are the Professional Development Bureau, Community Service Bureau, Special Operations Bureau, Emergency Operations Bureau, and Technical Service Bureau. This makes it easier for the departments to address different kinds of issues such as environmental, training, and community support. It also deploys specific devoted operations, such as the Kcl airport response units, hazardous materials unit, high angle rescue teams and water rescue units.
Of course, the Kansas Fire Department’s level of success cannot be achieved without its dedicated staff. But before these become firefighters, they first undergo a rigid training, ran by a fully-staffed Training Academy, which concentrates on recruit training, refresher courses, EMS training, and continuing education to the entire department. Aside from this, the training academy have also build a communications center, which is designed to promote community openness, and enable citizens to voice their concerns and issues. It receives calls for assistance, who then promptly dispatches units to address the issue.
Of course, the department isn’t only concerned with stopping fires– they are also dedicated to preventing them. They have an entire section for that, where they do not only promote fire safety and education, but also investigates fire incidences, reviews new or remodeled buildings, and also performs building inspections so that they comply with the city’s fire code.
The Fire Department’s mission is to protect and serve our community with commitment and dedication to excellence. Every encounter with a citizen or guest is an opportunity to fulfill our mission. Members of this agency must stand committed to deliver their very best with each opportunity to serve.
